Commonly known as a “thermos”, vacuum bottles are containers, typically made of stainless steel, with an inner and outer shell in between which there is vacuum at 10-3 - 10-4 Torr. The vacuum provides the thermal insulation for the bottle.

Since the middle of 1970 SAES Getters has provided Non Evaporable Getters to the bottles manufacturers to improve and maintain the best insulation over time. The getter, now in the form of St2002 Pills, is usually mounted inside the evacuated jacket of the vacuum bottle and it performs several functions.
- Since the NEG is activated during the pump out and bake out of the bottle, it provides an "in-situ" pumping action, thus reducing the processing time.
- The getter adsorbs the residual molecules of active gases which are desorbed by the walls during the life of the vacuum bottle. If not removed these molecules increase the pressure inside the evacuated jacket, destroying the thermal insulation.
- The getter also adsorbs molecules that have entered the vacuum chamber through micro leaks or by permeation through the walls of the bottle.

SAES quality, as a result of decade long experience in vacuum and getter materials, is confirmed by the comparison of performances of the SAES St2002 getter to a competitor’s product. The SAES St2002 shows significantly better performances even at a lower activation temperature, thus offering double benefits to our customers.
