  CapaciTorr Pumps

The new MK5 series High Capacity pumps are based on high porosity sintered materials for maximum performances in terms of speed and capacity and best mechanical characteristics.

The new MK5 flange design results in simpler and compact overall pump assembly, with foot print and reliability advantages over the previous series.

The two getter materials used in CapaciTorr pumps are: St172 material, a sintered material based on the well known St707 getter alloy, and the St185 a Ti-V alloy.

The special getter material configurations consisting of high porosity getter elements provide improved performance over traditional NEG pumps; in particular they provide higher capacity resulting in a longer life and in a greater available number of venting reactivation cycles.

Cartridge

The CapaciTorr cartridges are based on two different types of getter materials, St172 and St185. Both materials are configured in the form of sintered porous bodies: disks for the St172 and blades for the St185. These sintered porous bodies are arranged in the cartridge structure in a way to optimize speed and capacity performances.

Pump Body

The optional pump body is a simple double flanged nipple. If desired, the pump can be mounted nude inside the vacuum system to fully exploit its pumping speed. The pump body can be supplied with a water cooled jacket, even though the water cooling is not necessary far the pump to function efficiently. Both the pump body and the pump flange are leak tested to 1.5 x 10-10 scm3/s.

Flange

The support flange is a standard CF type flange in which one Special Connector equipped with six conductors far electrical and thermocouple connections is TIG welded. The pump flange is leak tested to 1.5 x 10-10 scm3/s.

Heater

The heater of the CapaciTorr B 1300-2 and of the CapaciTorr D 2000 consists of a tantalum wire spiral wound on an allumina element supported by a stainless steel rod. The heater for the CapaciTorr D 400-2 and of the CapaciTorr B 200 pumps consists in a tungsten wire inserted in a ceramic tubulation. This heater is part of the pump cartridge structure.

Thermocouple

The thermocouple is a K type electrically insulated within an allumina tube. It is assembled on the support flange and connected to the electrical connector with compensated contact terminations.

Electrical connector

The Special Connector allows the connection of the pump to the power supply and control unit. The connector is bakeable up to 400°C.
